Vintage Verses: Poems About Change
Classic poetry from the masters. This first collection of Vintage Verses focuses on “change,” featuring work by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, T.S. Eliot, William Ernest Henley, and Rumi. Every line in this set circles around that theme: what it costs you to move with change instead of getting dragged along by it.
Longfellow states it plainly: “Nothing that is can pause or stay…” There’s just no arguing with the moon. Things move whether you’re ready or not—that’s just the way of the world.
Rumi takes the same idea and turns it into a decision: “Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love.” Change isn’t just something that happens to you; sometimes it’s a direction you choose before you can even say why.
Henley offers a stoic refusal to be steered by whatever might be changing. “I am the master of my fate / I am the captain of my soul.” A different kind of courage, perhaps, than the other poets in this collection.
Eliot asks the timeless question that bubbles beneath all of it: “Do I dare disturb the universe?” Every choice you make creates a tiny disturbance. (And sometimes a not-so-tiny one.)

Jad Josey: Poems from Cast Your Longest Shadow
These poems hold a special place in my heart, and it was pretty moving to see them printed on a pint glass—which is, of course, a really different experience than reading them on the page.
Cast Your Longest Shadow is my debut book of poetry, published by Chestnut Review out of NYC. This glassware collection features four poems from the book: “Enormous as Want,” “The Oldest Living Thing in the World,” “And Then It Was June,” and “Everything from Now On.”
Of course I want you to buy the book and read all the poems.
